CHS Horticulture Students Participate in the National Day of Silence

Today, the CHS Horticulture group joined with the CHS GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) to honor the LGBT community by participating in a National youth-run effort using silence to protest the actual silencing of LGBT people due to harassment, bias and abuse in schools, created by GLSEN, an international LGBT youth initiative.

Starting off at 7:00 am with a beginning of silence waffle-party, and ending with a breaking of silence pizza party, the Horticulture students and many other inspiring students from Clarksburg High chose to stay silent throughout the entire day. Many teachers participated as well. The GSA provided white boards to help the students communicate in their classes, and even provided supplies and t-shirts to create customized apparel to convey the message as well.

The Horticulture program really enjoyed gardening on the National Day of Silence as a way of celebrating all people. Thank you to everyone who were silent for a day to help support the LGBT community!
